Quake!!! Benchmarks for the XP - does it even use SSE?

I'm starting to wonder of Quake!!! uses SSE with AMD chips or if it requires a "GenuineIntel" label from the processor to kick in. The XP just isn't getting the performance that it should with ultra high FSBs. I highly doubt that RDRAM is the secret being that the SiS chipset performs faster than the 850 chipset in Quake!!!.

I wonder if we can get the infamous Anand La Shrimpi to verify from the head man himself, John Carmack, whether or not non-Intel processors get the added benefit of SSE from the Quake!!! engine?

I believe Carmack stated in his .plan that there are no CPU specific optimizations in Quake3, and that he also stated that this was cause the big gain was in the OpenGL drivers.

Could the OpenGL drivers require "GenuineIntel" for them to use SSE?

Sounds likely, but OTOH it sounds unlikely that nVidia wouldn't have fixed this with their XP drivers, since they knew it would hold back performance on the Palominos.

Doesnt make a whole lot of sense...
