I actually like it a little.. still playing.

I'm playing Quake 2 first since I never played it before, then I'm going to do Q4. I'm having alot of fun with Q2 despite the crappy graphics. One good thing about Q2, is it makes me feel like I have an uber leet pc, everything maxed out and it doesn't even get warm 🙂

There are a few mods out there that add new visual and gameplay elements to the game. Would provide you with a few links but I'm at work.

It's rather obvious that the whole reason behind this thread was that the OP just wanted to try out the bit of slang he picked up from the 1993-bargain bin at the thrift shop...

Are there any config guides that are available for Q4 that we can give the angry little man? Like things you should turn off of you've got Graphic Card X and things you should turn on?

Screw em, all it is is Quake 3.

And I think stupid fools suck 🙂

A 9800 pro is faster than an fx5950 ultra in the doom3 engine and you should be getting an average of at least 45fps at 800x600.

I think it's about time you sold your computer and bought an xbox. We of course would not be missing you from the internet.

Yayy maybe your parents can buy me one too.

That's weird. Did you remove all old drivers and get the newest ones?

I have an ATI 9600 Pro, I run at 1024x768 with details on high, runs pretty smooth.

On my 9800 pro, I'm using the 4.x drivers. 4.3 maybe? I think 5.9s are newest but I see no reason to upgrade to them.

Wooo the link modeps posted helps A LOT, i'm getting atleast 50fps all the time now in 800x600, plus I think upgrading to latest Catalyst helped.

Wonder if theres the same tweaks for multiplayer?

hahah look at that PC and your complaining?
modernize that PC...

A64 3200 2 gigs of Crucial ram and a 6800 Ultra and i have no problems running Doom3 or Q4 at max at 1600x1200

His idea of a "decent" framerate probably conflicts severly with most peoples. Theres a guy up there who posted saying the game runs ok on a 9600 PRO.... Some peoples idea of a game running smoothly/ok are significantly different from others. I havent played it on my 9800 PRO, but based on the more modern games ive been playing i probably wouldnt be too happy.

You should consider changing the title of this thread now that your problem is solved.

I been playing 1280x1024 high detail 2x AA on the rig in my sig. It's plenty playable to me but high FPS doesn't matter to me. As long as it's playable and not a slideshow I'm fine.

Maybe it's a combo of you running a XP and a 9800. Although 6600GT isn't a whole lot faster but faster.

Many peope with 9xxx series cards are having this problem, i think it was a driver issue that is causing it. I ran quake 4 fine with a 9800 PRO.

D3 (and now the Q4 demo) run perfectly fine on my ancient PC - a 533FSB P4 2.7GHz with 512MB RAM and a 9700 non-pro.

rstrohkirch, could you find those links you mentioned for Quake 2 please? I love the game but the graphics really don't do it for me anymore.

So . . . now that you got Q4 running smoothly . . . does it still suck?
:Q

I used to run the 4.9 drivers which came out wiht some optimizations for UT2004. Later drivers didn't do any better but the latest, the 5.9 drivers, gave me a significant boost in UT2004 frame rates.
