I wasn't expecting there to be a great multiplayer aspect to this game whenever id stated that it was the true sequel to the Quake 2 storyline. Everybody wanting an awesome MP game, remember that Quake Wars: Enemy Territory is coming out next year. That is the game I'm looking forward to, especially since Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory was such a great game.

Is it just me or is IGN grading more harshly now. It used to be that gamespot reviewed in more detail and ign almost always gave the same game a higher score. But now ign rates the DOOM 3 engine a 9 and F.E.A.R 9.5. Which doesnt make sense because they should be comparing to this generations games which both are top of the line and deserve a 10. I also agree that ign reviews arent very good but they get there reviews up usually before the game even releases. Which deserves a plus because this topic wouldnt have even come up if that wasnt so.

I only looked at the final score breakdown, but it doesn't seem that bad. I don't care if they give it a 1.0, I'm not going to cancel my Special DVD Edition preorder :D

I'll wait on Quake 4 to see what happens with multiplayer. MP with vehicles would be nice, but we'll see how it turns out. They definately need more maps. Might just stick with UT2004 until UT2007 comes out about this time next year.

Ravensoft is about the most worthless developer for multiplayer mode on the market. They got only 3 games right in their entire existance of multiplayer modes : soldier of fortune 2, Elite Forces and jedi outcast ( after patch 1.04 ). Every other game they touch is rubbish in multiplayer for the MOST gamers that extend for the sake of gaming. Jedi Academy multiplayer is rubbish compared to Jedi Outcast. Its imbalanced, has 1 patch, and Raven didn't heed the wants of the userbase. The only part that is any good is the siege mode they added last minute... and left the older, popular JK2 modes such as duel to rot in he77.

Looks like raven is doing the same thing with Quake 4... making it one hell of a 1player game while crapping on what made the previous titles spot on. I hope they don't make Jedi Knight IV but alas its looking like they will.

Yes, I am one ticked off Jedi!

To those of you guys worried about maps:
Considering how huge the Quake community is, i doubt we'll have any shortage of maps.

Unless they don't allow importing maps (which would be retarded), there will be craploads of maps in no time :)

Sheez, no multiplayer bots again. What's up with game makers these days, what a bunch of lazy slackers? I really enjoy multiplayer games I can play with my kids on a home LAN without having to go online.

Still hoping for DOD:Source bots.......
Multiplayer bots are the most worthless thing in any game. Seriously, I don't think any company should spend any time developing them. I don't play multiplayer games to play against bots. That's what single player games are for.

Bots are the future. They're great practice. What was it? The statistics that Epic culled from their market research. Like 80% of the people who bought unreal tournament 2004 didn't take it online.

Is it just me, or did he completely breeze over his explanation of why he didn't like the multiplayer? All it seems to say was that he didn't like the maps, and then he had nearly no commentary about the actual multiplayer gameplay. And anyway, as has already been mentioned here, you better believe the Quake community will be ready and waiting to develop new maps for every number of players.

Quake 3 remains one of my all-time favorite FPS multiplayer games - if Quake 4 deathmatch lives up to it, I'd say its worth the price.

I preordered Q4 for single player. I didn't really dig the Q3 multiplayer ( that's what Unreal is for :D ). I'm looking forward to it, but I'm not super excited. The game I really want to see is RTCW2, I can't wait for that to come out.

Baah.. another mediocre FPS. I was honestly expecting much more from the company that practically invented the FPS genre... perhaps with some new innovations. Lets face it, iD is no longer the company it used to be and they will be remembered for the games they created back in the day. iD is slowly reaching its demise.. they are in their last stages.. and they are milking the classic iD game names for all they are worth (Doom 3, Quake 4, and Wolfenstein has just been announced).
Well, what can I say: R.I.P iD.. R.I.P

You're right, ID isn't the game creating company they used to be....and I don't think they're trying to be. I think they're slowly steering themselves into engine/physics creation only....and frankly, that's fine by me. Engine creation is their forte and always has been, let them make fast, moddable, great-looking engines and let other pros make the actual game content. This is one reason why the mod community has always been big with iD based games...going all the way back to QuakeWorld and the first TeamFortress mod. Hell, going even further back to all the way to the old doom modpacks (starwars and aliens anyone?).

From my Quake3 experience, the good maps came from the ommunity and the best gameplay was in the mods. People don't rely on id to make the best games; id provides a really slick game engine and shows you what they've done with it, then makes tools available to the community to take it even further. Modders then push the game in any direction they want, giving gamers a dizzying myriad of variations or even total conversions that are all backed by a silky-smooth and powerful engine.
THAT's the real value of top-notch FPS developers such as id and Epic, and that's why I'll probably buy Quake 4, regardless of what the shipping game is like.

of course, it's not gonna have a kick ass multiplayer or else there would be no reason to release quake wars.
