What did that comment have to do with anything?

OP: Have you ran fraps to see for certain that you are not dipping in the low 30's?

Doesnt Q4 run better than D3 by like 10%? Anand's review shows it gets 90 fps and D3 gets 81 fps. But as far as I know, D3 was the game which required 512mb video memory to run optimally. I remember reading somewhere that when benchmarked with a 256/512 X800XL at ultra resolution, they performed nearly identical in terms of fps, I dont remember about IQ or artifacts.

Congratulations.

You can always try running a higher resolution with a highe r AA. Yes, that would definately slow it down, if you like to get a kick out of that.

Im positive im not dipping into the 30's because I've had that in FEAR and COD2, Quake4 doesnt have that slowed down feel at all (Which is cause by framerates in the 30's or lower)

Doom 3 doesn't necessarily need 512 MB for Ultra Quality... just more than 256. By how much I don't know. Maybe just a few MB in certain areas. The increased bandwidth of 16x PCI Express might allow for some minor texture swapping to happen without much of a performance hit.

To be honest... I can play Doom 3 in Ultra Quality on my 6800GT just fine. So even 8X AGP might provide enough bandwidth for the minimal texture swapping that needs to be done.

I've also noticed this with the COD2 demo - on my card it chews up all the available video mem (256mb), and probably swapping some data to system ram, but it still runs smoothly and without any stutter.

Don't need to add it, either. It's a default line, it's just set to "1".

What resolution are you running? If you're doing 800x600, I'm gonna laugh at you. :p

lol, no, Im at 1280x960 4xAA 8xAF

I'll go higher, I was just playin it safe since it was my first time playing Quake 4 and I expected its performance to be comparable to FEAR.

That low resolution is why it's running so well. Also not all areas in thegame require 512 MB VRAM on Ultra.
