Quake 3 sound tuning with Turtle Beach Santa Cruz

OK I just purchased this sound card, everything sounds great, but in Q3 it is soft, not very clear, and doesn't image well. I can't tell where opponents are at all. When I play mp3's though it sounds excellent.


Any ideas? Came from a SB Live card.
 
Click on volume control to bring up SC settings [you installed the appropriate driver, right?]: have you set for right number of speakers in Main? Go to Other: have you checked Enable 3d stereo enhancement. If you have, note that this option uses much wider range of sound to establish distance, etc. You may try turning this off to get straight stereo sound which is significantly louder.
