quake 3 runs pretty good on 4mb video card

quake 3 plays surprisingly on my sister's dell comp: 733mhz p3, 4mb integrated intel video card...I can't even really tell a difference between gaming on my comp (700mhz athlon classic, voodoo3 3000 agp 16mb). so is this normal? my card is much better than hers and gameplay is about the same (although when first loading a game, it's slow on her comp).

If your not a hardcore gamer, it can be hard to tell the difference. I can tell the difference between almost any card on the market (if you give me proper time to test it).

If your just a casual gamer, its normal.

Depends on your game settings too. If it's 640x480, both those setups are more than capable of pushing it to the max.

Can't tell the difference?

Its easy to spot on a TNT VS a G200. Colors are quite different. Q3 looks like crap on i740 cards plain and simple.

<< then again if you have a Radeon 32M DDR there is no way that you are a hardcore gamer >>

I have a Radeon 32DDR and I only play games for about 8hrs a day. I guess that's not very hardcore ha?

Non-competitive people may take up to 500% the time to process visual information observed by the most elite athletes. Athletes in this case being the focus group. I am sure that eye-hand coordination in hard-core gamers would follow the same principle.

When Emmitt Smith was at Florida U. he underwent some tests to monitor the visual speed of his eyes. He was so quick to focus that his eyes often were able to process 30% more information than the next best "test subject". In this case, the majority of test subjects were either amatuer or professional athletes.

heck, I have some quake boxes out of i810 mobos, its very playable in 640X480X16. just make sure you don't fight with more than 3-4 bots at once....

Nobody has thought to mention yet that this integrated Intel VGA draws on main memory for graphics. The 4Mb is only for people with low memory configs I expect or 2D so that the card can actually work at modern resolutions.

hey.... i740 aint totally suck! while its a bit sluggish, it felt like a worthwhile upgrade to me 2 years ago... made q2 look better, but strangely it seemed a bit jerkier (lol i used to think it was supposed to blow v1 outta water)

I can't even really tell a difference between gaming on my comp

I seriously doubt a system with a 4MB video card would give you performance on par with that of a V3 (or give even good performance at all for that matter), unless you are running the Locki config at 320 x 240 or something.

Instead of posting the highly subjective "I can't tell a difference" how about running actual timedemos on each system with identical settings?
