Quake 3 Master Server unreliable?

I only recently started online with Q3 - too much UT.

However it seems I only rarely can access the master server. Plus, is it normal to kick me off a server after every game or do I have to set something to keep me on that server like in UT.

What version of Quake3 are you running? 1.17? There have been problems with patches prior to this.

What type of connection are you using? 56k connections have problems like that all the time. I ping very well for 56k - there's a server that I get about 4 hops too and ping around 130-140ms to, but not everyone is as blessed.
