Quake 3 Benchmark problem - help!

Ok weird problem, only seems to affect the latest point releases.
If i install a clean version of Quake3 Arena, to do a benchmark i type:

timedemo 1
demo demo001

and it works fine.
Then i install the 1.27g Pointrelease and now it doesn't work.
It says:
"Can't open /demos/demo001.dm3.dm_48"

any ideas?
Seems to only affect 1.27g. Anyone had the same problem?
