quake 3 127h patch benchmark

i just installed the latest patch for quake 3 and got 8 FPS increase over 127g. i get 64.1 at 1024x768 32 bit color and textures with triliniar filtering. is that good average for retail radeon 32 MEG on thunderbird 900 system? please excuse me i am late to the quake 3 scene, i just got it the other day, sorry 😱

Sounds pretty low, not that I have any Radeon numbers in my head but I get just over 60 with a GeForce DDR and the Radeon should be quite a bit better than the DDR.

Actually, thats about right for a 32 DDR. 1.27 scores are lower than 1.17 were. If you want to increase them a bit, turn on texture compression. You have to set it in your q3config.cfg file.
seta r_ext_compressed_textures "1"
Be sure texture compression is also enabled in your Radeon OpenGL settings. To boost the scores a bit further, you could overclock the Radeon. There are some recent posts on a new overclocking utility if you look a bit. If you do, go a little at a time. 175 - 180 should be pretty easy.

i was looking at the overclocker for it and have the tweaking program downloaded for it but i am leary of just upping the clock. from what i have read so far shouldn't you be upping both the memory and core speeds? i am pretty happy with the performance so far anyhow, i just started messing with quake 3 which is my first experience at online playing. of course i got blasted to pieces my first time out.

Try the texture compression then. It will slightly degrade the quality of some things (like sky textures), but should speed things up some. Texture compression is more helpful on 32 meg cards Vs. 64 meg cards. BTW, the utilities clock core and mem together. If you are uncomfortable with overclocking, don't do it. Its only good for a few extra fps anyway.

Glad to see you are having fun with Q3!

Enjoy!
