WTF is with software saything this? Sure its understandable that if you have to get data from the CD for the Game it might require a speed.
But most (at least what i have) software just installs from the CD and then never uses it again. So are you telling me that a 1X drive wont be "fast enough" to install some freaking software!

Many drives older than that weren't able to read certain standard CD-rom formats (CDROM-XA, Mode2)

Yeah but most newer games pretty much copy the whole cd to the hard drive.

No, my 1x cd-rom was able to stream video just fine.

150K a second is a pretty decent amount to work with, even now.
