Seems Quad SLi still needs time to fix driver bugs as Regular SLi and crossfire and still beat it in many benchmarks. I would not even recommend Quad SLi for uber high end right now.

The problem is, I believe the GX2 or whatever runs @ 500/1200, much lower clockspeeds, meaning the performance isnt as good as it could be.

That because of power that is needed for Quad SLi if they clocked it at regular speeds you would need a much better power suppy.(I dont think there is one on the market that can handdel 4 cards like that at full speed.)

Meh, the clockspeed won't make that much of a difference. At LEAST the memory should be clocked higher, 1200 MHz for a "top of the line" card is pathetic. That's why unless you're talking 2560x1600 w/AA, 7900GTX SLI can often get close/beat Quad SLI- it has a 30% advantage in core clock, and 33% advantage in memory bandwidth (per card). In the end, with "GTX" Quad-SLI, you're basicly getting 4 GT's.
 
I just hope that once those beefy PSU hits the market, the Quad-SLi can be cranked higher. Right now it really looks like a waste, doesn't offer that much of performance over 7900GTX SLi.
 
It wasn't so much of the power that was restricting the clocks as it was the temperatures. They said that since the two story design made out such a difficult cooling solution, they really had no choice but to underclock the GPU's potential to keep from overheating.
 
Yeah, I see how vendors are trying to watercool them. Really, is not going to work. All the branching out with the tubing is reducing the water flow.
 
I think that Quad SLI should be available with a Watercooling option. that way it wont really matter too much about the heat of two cards on one. At least they should provide the 1.1 Memory thats available readily on the top cards.

I still think its kak though... for what it is...
 
The PSU isn't really the problem. Companies like Alienware are shipping out Quad SLi systems with 850W and less powerful PSUs, so a PC&P 1KW should handle quad SLi with power to spare. The cooling, though, is a different story. Nvidia should have used heatpipes out of the side (a la 7900GTX) for better cooling and maybe also shold have made these 4 PCI slots tall each. Yes, this would have made them incompatible with normal mobos, but if someone could afford quad SLi then they can certainly afford a special E-ATX mobo designed just for these cards

the coolers they use appear to be just aluminium too, i would of thought copper would of been used. less its a different material entirely

heatpipes would be a good idea, like that asus? car with the heat pipe and fins that stick off the side?
