I thinking about upgrading to a quad core processor around Christmas time so I am wondering if there will be any quad core price cuts between the July one and 2008.
Thanks!

Maybe he's saving up his pennies now for a great quad-core rig around Christmas time. I'm kind of in the same boat. I think that by that time the cheapest intel quad core will be reasonbly priced in the mid 100 dollar range, or at least i'm hoping.

now that i highly doubt.
Reason is because intel would make more money splitting the cores and selling them off as cheaper dual cores.

Yeah, they aren't going to be releasing $50-$75 full C2Ds ever(only castrated ones), so why would they release the equivalent quad with no price premium?

And oddly enough (well, it really isn't but some might think so because competition=lower prices), if Barcelona turns out to be as good as / better than Intel's quad offerings, chances are quad-core prices will not go down at all.
I don't follow...when Core2 Duo came out and demolished the X2 in benches we all of sudden had affordable dual-core chips out the wazzu (albeit the X2's).
Why does it not stand to reason then that if Phenom out-performs Intel quads then we can expect Intel to dump prices on the quads?
Seems to me the only downside to be had is that whichever platform turns out to be the first to reach uber-cheap territory will be the one which pwns the low bench scores.

If barcelona demolishes the core 2 quad, it would be better for Intel to break up the core2 quads and sell them as dual cores rather than lower the price. Since Barcelona's are just ramping up and AMD is hurting for money, it's unlikely they will be cheap.

Did AMD start selling more single-core chips once Intel dominated them in the dual-core market? Did AMD reduce their manufacturing rates on X2's and shift production loadings to ship more single-core chips?
im going to have to disagree...if intel doesnt offer a cpu that is at least somewhat comparable to amds then they will be in the losing position once again..they arent going to just quit offering quad cores all of a sudden
