Basically I went to newegg and tried to find the best bang for the buck for each category.

Suggestions welcome. PC will be used for Digidesign Pro Tools and other editing.

$29.99

Microsoft Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005 SP2b

Total: 1269.92 + shipping

If I shopped around, including the CPU price cut, I could probably save about 100 bucks or so to offset the shipping cost.

Please critique.

I am a bit concerned at the cable length of the Seasonic, I seem to recall people having trouble with Seasonic's power connectors in P180s or am I just mistaken?

Also, what would be a good aftermarket cooling solution, I remember Zalman CNPS9500 was kicking a$$ a year ago... Is it still king for $50?

Hi,
if you are not going SLI you should absolutely get GIGABYTE GA-P35-DS3R:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/...x?Item=N82E16813128050

and I also think you are overpaying for a 430w PSU, even though it's a good one. I'd get this Xclio instead, I've personally had experience with it and it's nothing but great, especially considering it's only $50.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/...x?Item=N82E16817189005

Rest looks allright, lets hope that Q6600 will really cost $266 on July 22nd :)

P.s- there is a small chance that this ram you selected will not work on this motherboard right away, since it's not on the qualified memory list ( http://www.giga-byte.com.tw/Fi...memory_ga-p35-ds3r.pdf ) However, it should, even if it doesn't you'll just have to set the ram voltages manually in bios, thats all.

Good luck

I have changed the RAM to 2 X 1GB, because I hear it helps in stability and should the need arise, in overclocking.

I see, so you are not overclocking right away, correct? Because if you are, you might want to get an aftermarket cooler for your CPU, I can give a few suggestions in that department as well.

No, I don't think right away. If later on the system were to be overclocked, what would you suggest is a well-performing budget cooling solution?

Scythe SCINF-1000 would be the one to get for mid $50's. I've used it myself to overclock an E6600 and it's been keeping it perfectly cool and stable. (at 3.2ghz)

I'll keep that in mind. I've heard nothing but good stuff about the Scythe.

Which video card is better? 7900GS or 8600GT? They are both in the same price range, which is the better buy?
