Hi Linux gurus
Here is the situation. We are using a linux box as a NAT. My friends are downloading from napster alike all the time eating the bandwidth. The major problem being my ssh packets getting stuck behind their huge mp3 packets :( Is there a way to reserve bandwidth for them and keep my ssh(s) fast and steady? I would appreciate any detailled step by step howto
Thx

Bump for the man. Can't help you here but I feel for ya (though if you can convince them to use Lopster, a Linux napster clone, I know you can reduce the maximum available bandwidth it will use for downloading. that's kind of a volunatry solution though).

Doesnt IPTables do some QoS?

EDIT: looking through OpenBSD archives, altq may be what you need.

Take a look at the advanced routing howto, iproute2. If it's just a small network, take a look at CBQ, that's what I use on my network.
