5.0Ghz suicide benchmark != 5.0Ghz Stable Overclock.

Also why does CPU-Z say 2 cores?

Whats the big deal? Other C2Ds have hit 5ghz in the past so why should a $1300 chip that does it make for an exciting Q1/08? Plus this is an extreme OC and most 9700s will be unlikely to reach that.

I don't know, maybe cuz it's all new stuff? Also, they claim to be using a Tuniq 120 and voltage at 1.56V. I would love to see the temps...on air?

Or they're lying through their wooden teeth?

Probably because the CPU is not even out yet so it's not reading everything right in the current version of CPU-Z. The cache reads right for a quad core at least (2X6MB).

Pretty dang impressive - above they have results from a SuperPI test done at 4.973 GHz. Crazy!

Though 1.56V is a ridiculous amount to be putting into a 45nm chip, and ludicrously far above stock. CPU must run crazy hot. Otherwise, it looks like low-k is the shiznits!

You mean the high-k gate dielectric combined with the metal gates?

To my knowledge the low-k dielectric used in Intel's 45nm BEOL is the same low-k used in their 65nm IC's.

If so, then yes I agree with you, Intel's HK/MG is the shiznits.

They may have disabled two cores to get that result, or two may have disabled themselves due to the vcore.

Seen quads "turn into" duals before with extreme OCs.

CPU-Z will show it without a problem. It's not "too new".

See that CPU-Z screenshot that AnandTech made of the QX9770? Looks like 4 cores to me...
