Q9550 @MicroCenter back at $169.99

Is it even worth getting at this stage. 🙄

Well, I would think it would be a worthwhile upgrades for people looking to do a minor upgrade from a dual to a quad - and most likely be able to keep all the other parts of the system. Not everyone can afford to overhaul their whole system. 🙂

Yes it's worth getting.

Even if you have an E8400- sell your Wolfie for almost as much as your Q9550 would cost..-30 dollar upgrade and some hassle

Quad-Core Future Proofing (If that is even possible) for another year or 2. Just as overclockable. 4ghz is realistic.

Don't have to switch to a new Mobo and DDR3 Ram..just a CPU swap.

If you are debating and have a 775 board..then DO IT.

I'm thinking the same thing. 180 bucks for a cpu that performs worse and uses more power than the same price i5 750.

I have a s775 system with an e5200 clocked at 3.5 and want to upgrade to a quad... but if I sold my current mobo/ram/chip an upgrade to a i5 750 and mobo combo and a DDR3 purchase would not cost much more than this 9550.

For a new from the ground up build, maybe not, probably better off with this http://www.microcenter.com/single_pr...uct_id=0317379

$20.00 more but like 5% more processing power by Tom's charts.

But if you want to upgrade a good 775 rig to quad core this is still well worth it.

with a little overclocking, you can equal the much more exspensive cpu's stock performance.

in your case.. No.

It's only a good deal if you have a higher end wolfdale that can resell for 80%+ of this Q9550.

Otherwise, if you have a budget overclocker..your right.. not worth it.

fyi, no ordering/reserving online with 18 min pickup if you want to use the previous purchase 5% discount.

friggin AWESOME!

i bought one earlier thinking i could put it in my old Precision Workstation and found out its not compatible so I returned it (still unopned)

then around christmas i bought a Gateway SX2800 that has a Q8200 but it's not VT compatible! So I went to microcenter again and only to see it popped back to $229.99!

i am in like flynn now! thanks OP!!!

The Q9550 is now back at 179.99, 185 after 3.5% sales tax.

I bit this time... figure I'll get 50 bucks for my e5200 and won't have to worry about upgrading my mobo/cpu for two years. Would have been more fun to sell it all and get an i5 750 for the same price but this is just easier and a somewhat cheaper.

well considering 150 for good ram 150 for good mobo and 150 for good cpu compared to 160 for good cpu.. hmm is it really just as cheap to buy new mobo and ram and get i7 what ever? if it was id be tempted to upgrade one of the 4 quad core 775's i run now..

I run my Q9550 at 3.65Ghz stock vcore in the rig in my siggy. I do some light video encoding to make family DVD's and some rippin & encoding. The Q9550 runs through it just fine with all 4 cores going at it. Other than that I game on it and I've yet to run across a game that is CPU limited by it. If anything I need mo GPU. So ya... IMHO it's worth it still.

my local store has an open box one going for 10 dollars... im picking it up .... think thats a bad idea?
