@ Newegg.. $209!.. anyways, is there a way to tell by the model # if it is G0 stepping? I assume most of these chips floating around by now are all G0 stepping but I want to be safe. I got the rest of my system queued up.. well, except for video card.. still pondering that one

That's one hell of a chip!

PS. If you order right away, you get a free brimstone heated oil scent that attaches to your CPU cooler...

It has to have a SLACR at the end of the PROD CODE on the box, to be a G0 Q6600.

I ordered mine ( from newegg ) in February and it is a G0. As I have been observing in this forum, there have been comments that the B3 have been pretty much distributed. I would be pretty sure that it's safe. But again, there are no guarantees.🙂

Why is Q6600 out of stock? Is this a shortage caused by the quake in China closing factories or is a new stepping coming out?

Surely demand didn't suddenly double or triple causing a shortage, so supply must have got cut in half somewhere for some reason to cause the inventory depletion.

TankGuys? Want to give us a clue?

i thought that intel was in the process of shifting more and more of their quad production over to 45nm. maybe they're doing that at one of the fabs that was formerly making q6600?

Not sure why they ran out - there's *plenty* in the distribution channel right now, 2400+ at one distributor alone.

Thanks for the reply and data point. Must be one of those instances where the markets are not as fluid and efficient as we like to write about them in the econ textbooks 😉

haven't really had to worry about the B3 stepping for months now, if you get one (not used) consider yourself lucky because they should be all gone 😛

Be warned that some of the new G0's have a VID of a whopping 1.325V! Mine has a VID of 1.3V.

Yup ! I got one of those a while back. It only does 3.4

Look on the bright side...getting a chip like that increases your overclocking skills 😉

Q6600 with a 1.225v vid is a walk in the park.
