the ex50 chips are all brand new chips and all are G0 stepping. The problem with the Q6600 is that it is NOT new but it is now being made with the G0 stepping, too. Signs point to the G0 being a much better chip, especially in the quad where heat is such a huge problem. Tank guys have made a preorder list for G0 Q6600's, and they are now saying that it could be sept before they actually show up.Originally posted by: Valour
For the people who are looking to get the E6850 G0 stepping, aren't you currently in the same lottery that the Q6600 people are in? Meaning, from what I have seen, there are E6850 that are based on the old stepping (B3?). I was originally of the belief that the E6850 was a new part that was only created with G0, but I could swear I read something in the past day or so that showed differently. Can anyone confirm?

Hi there,
Same debate here. But I won't upgrade my CPU in at least 2-3 years, so I should go with the Q6600 I hear, BUT.. I'm going to California in a few hours and will be there for the price cut, how can I know if its the G0 stepping by just looking at the box?
Hope Frys has at least the E6850 on the 22th.. but now I hear there's no-G0 E6850s as well.. so the question remains the same, how can I know which one is it? Pardon my ignorance.
Thanks in advance,
Chofo
P.S. I'm not familiar with this, will the price cut be effective like right away on the 22th at stores?
