q6600 overclocking

How are the later q6600's from 2008 overclocking, anyone here with one with a newer pack date willing to share how far they have been able to go and with what voltages?

I have a really good OC on the one I bought 2 months ago, G0 stepping out course, Im prime stable for 8 hours at 3ghz and current voltage. I have no need to push further.
 
I'm overclocking my GO stepping that I got back in December at 3.6 ghz 9x400 with a vcore of only 1.402v on a Gigabyte GA-EP45-DS3L motherboard with my cpu temp currently at 36'C. By the way with my system running at 1600fsb because my motherboard supports this speed. My memory timmings are 1:1

Or he didn't properly tweak the other settings for less vcore. He needs to check GTL, NB, VTT and other voltages.

I bought my q6600 (G0) from newegg about 5-6 weeks ago (OEM). Running right now at 1.27v @ 3.2GHz (8x400). Perfectly stable at 9x400=3600MHz also; however, it required 1.4-1.425v (can't remember which) to get there (and remain stable on air). I wanted to keep heat down as much as possible, so I decided to stick at 3.2GHz with closer to stock voltages. I have the vcore in bios set at +0.025 (the Tpower bios has no +0v option so I couldn't try that... and automatic ramps it up to 1.4v under load). +0.025 is the smallest value you get (there are undervolting options... but they don't provide enough juice for the OC). The 1.27v measurement was from cpu-z while running 4 prime threads.

I'm very happy with the chip. I may explore the world of water cooling in the future. However, I'm very impressed with the performance of my core contact freezer for the $35 I paid (and it came with some pretty decent TIM). The icing on the cake was that I got a $30 off deal from newegg when I purchased the OEM chip with something else to build the rig (for the life of me I can't remember if it was the motherboard or the corsair PSU).

I would have liked to go with a 45nm Quad; however, this chip was such a huge upgrade from my Athlon XP (barton core) 2500+ @ 2.3GHz based system... well... that it didn't matter what I bought (and for the price... the q6600 is awesome). I can't believe how fast h.264 encoding is now! I love it!
 
kg4icg, is that 1.402v under load voltage or the voltage you set in bios? Has anyone else got 3.6ghz or more with reasonable voltages?

Yeah same here, 3Ghz is fine, I don't see why I should increase the voltage that high for an extra 400 Mhz.

31-29 C idle and 53 C load.

Alot of that is due to my case and zalman.
 
the voltage was showing up in CPU-Z, I had it set for auto on my MB. So before vdroop, it was Probably 1.5. Right now I cut it back to 3.2 ghz and set my Volatge manually to 1.35 and with the vdroop factored in cpu-z is indicating 1.28 to 1.296 with my temps hovering at 32'C at idle in a room temp of 70'F. My fan is a OCZ Vanquish. That voltage of 1.402 was under load. The idle voltage and that's with my mb, your mb might be different was 1.38 to 1.39 idle. Don't forget room temp effects the temps inside your case too.

Clarkey01, are you running the latest Cpu-z? Something doesn't seem right when it loads up to show 1.68v. Technically, at that voltage, you have run quite a bit higher than spec shows for that chip. I would be doing some checking.....🙂
 
Q6600 #1 = 1.325Vid, 1.39v in bios for a 2.9 OC (for now, testing) 50c @ full load. Have Another HS on top to see the temp differance from a Tuniq. ( not in sig )

Q6600 #2 = 1.262Vid, 1.4375v in bois for a 3.4 OC that is now maybe 40c @ full load. Tuniq HS is sitting on it. ( in sig )


The major differance between the 2 is the ease of over clocking. #2 just breezed to 3.1 without changing a thing but as for #1, well that is in need of some help. I purchaced #1 ( OEM ) first, sometime in Januarary. #2 ( Boxed ), sometime in August.

I got a recent Q6600, made in May or something and its a pretty crappy overclocker. I need 1.500 to keep it stable at 3336 (8*417). I don't use VDroop control and the measured voltage is around 1.440 to 1.392 under load.
 
I bought mine in july (G0) and it got 3ghz at stock voltage and 3.2ghz @ 1.35V. I think 3.2 is enough for me, didn't really bother to see how high it would go.
