Q6600 or Q9300

Budmantom

Lifer
I'm buying a new rig and I'm not sure if I should go with the 6600 or 9300, I guess the 9300 is "newer" and uses less power?

Is it a no brainer going with the 9300 if I'm not OC'ing and price is about the same?

BTW should I see a big difference with the 9300 and 6gb compared to my older rig with a P4 @ 3.8ghz & 3gb(assuming the rest of the components are the same)?

Thanks,

Tom

go with whatever offers you better performance/dollar at what you will use the cpu for?
what do you plan to do with the cpu?

I had the same dillema but I went the Q9300 route. I love it, but I didn't get as high as I expected to (from 2.5GHz to 3.3GHz. from there I was getting a few errors so I tuned it back to 3.2GHz and it's been great). So much better than my old X2 4200+ though.

The most demanding application will be Nascar Racing 2003 series even though it's an older sim but it can still bog my rig down(btw it can utilize at least 2 cores).

Did you see a big difference going from the 4200 to the 9300 @ stock speed?

Tbh unless you know yoru going to be doing some multithreaded apps then get a higher clocked duel core.

NR2003 is a multithread(2) app but I am rather concerned how the 9300 will measure up on the singlethread(?) apps to my p4 3.8ghz.

The best "deals" were on core 2 clocked @ 2.66ghz so I went with the quads...

More than big, it was monumental. It was also a fresh Vista x64 install vs. a XP Pro install, a P5E vs a A8N-32SLI Deluxe, and DDR2 1066MHz RAM over DDR 400MHz RAM, but yeah, it was huge.
