Q6600 or E7400?

I'm looking at getting a desktop from the Dell Outlet and want to see which processor would be best for my inlaws (or maybe they are effectively the same)?

Most of the activity is web browsing, office apps, photos, light video editing, and almost no gaming (just my kids playing Lego Batman and Indy Jones when they visit).

Thanks!

Q6600 gets my vote. 5 years from now, it will be a MUCH better processor than the E7400. As your inlaws load up junk on the pc, the Q6600 will handle it much better than the dual core will.

That's a good point. They'll probably have the PC for a long time. The current one is a crappy P4 2000 that they have had for 6 1/2 years!

sure the Q6600 will suffice for years to come unless they wanna start hardcore gaming or video encoding where still it'll be enough

Not with Q6600 or E7400s though. And they probably already have a monitor.

Yeah, with that power, I've always seen dell outlet machines to be far cheaper than new ones. They come with at least the 1-year warranty too. I also sometimes find 15-20% off coupons which makes them a super deal.

Yes, the also have a 20" flatscreen which is fine for them.
