Thinking of going with a Q6600 and OC to 3.6 using the Asus P5K-E mobo. Was planning on buying 2GB Crucial Ballistix DDR2 800 ram. Will I be able to achieve my OC with that RAM?

Thanks,
Mike

Aside from cooling which is what I assume you are referring to. 3.6 may be ambitious but from all the posts I have read it seems possible. Ill be satisfied with anything in the 3.2 - 3.4 range. :D

I went with the quad core because I do a lot of multitasking, virtualization, some vid stuff, etc. For me it made more sense than dual core but I do want to overclock it for better performance in games and such.

From other posts it looks like this memory will suffice. What do you think?

With the 9X multiplier, the Q6600 only needs a FSB of 400MHz to hit 3.6Hz, so the minimum speed memory that would work without overclocking is DDR2-800.

Thanks for the response. That's the RAM I am going with then. I'm also going to order a Tuniq Tower to cool that pup and I should be good to go!

I'm a little late...but yes, your choices are fine!

For future reference...

Desired MHz ÷ Multiplier = FSB MHz × 2 × 8 = PC2-xxxx needed
