Q6600 fan problem

Hey all, I installed a Q6600 the other night. And I am having some issues with the fan on boot up. I set up the alarm so I would have know when it wasn't running. And the past two days I have came home. Turned on my pc and listened to an alarm go off until I reboot and the fan kicks on. On the first boot up. I can watch the fan try and start. It will make a couple half turns and stop. After a reboot, it starts up no problem. Any ideas to what might be wrong here? Or should I just send for a new one right away?

Sorry, wrong forum, can somebody move this?

What mother board are you using? I know that for my Abit IP35-e, there is a setting in the bios in the same place where you set the other fan settings where you can specify if you are using a fan with a 3 pin or 4 pin connector. The default is 4 pin but my Tuniq tower uses a 3 pin so I changed it to 3 pin. Is it possible you have somthing like that going on?
