Q6600 Build - Hot!

So in December I built a new rig going from a CD2 Laptop with heat issues hoping to get away from it. It didn't happen.

XPC SP35P2V2 Barebones
Q6600 [Non G0, Not overclocked]
4GB GSKILL PC6400 Ram
300GB WD VelociRaptor [OS / Apps]
1TB Hitachi Ultrastar 32MB [Backup]
Asus EN9600GT Silent 512MB [Linky

So at idle, this thing runs at approximately 46*C
Using the XPC Tools and fans on full [sounding like small aircraft in the room ready to take off] it idles at 42*C.

I was wondering if possibly finding a G0 stepping CPU and perhaps a GPU with a cooler that would still cram into this box would really make a difference. Or just switch to a full tower. Room temps are normally ~70*F. Unfortunately after the rig runs for 30mins, that temp reaches up to ~78* or possibly higher. This PC was used as a furnace in December for my appartment. It never locks due to heat, but the amount it puts off is insane.

All I'm looking for is a rig that can browse, do some media apps, and the occassional WoW or what have you. Any suggestions would be appreciated. In any route.

Take the cover off the case and see if it improves. A lot of heat problems are from not getting air in and out of the case vs a problem with the actual fans on the heatsink.

Been watching it for some time now. Even without the cover, its at 44*C during anandtech browsing times

Might try to reverse the fans on the shuttle. Or replace the vid card if I can find one that would fit without clearing issues that isn't passively cooled :/

You can't even imagine the amount of heat my q6700 at 3.7 ghz and 1.5 V is generating. The heatsink becomes so hot, under Linpack, that it literally burns the dust on the fins, giving it a burning smell.

First of all, use Real Temp to check your temps and use Tjunction 90 C ( you have to set it manually). Because my temps are 33 C in idle at Tj 90 C, where at Tj 100 C they are around 43 C. So I have the feeling that you are using the wrong value.
And remember that every core 2 duo chip reports wrong idle temps. Load temps are the most important. A cpu will never die at idle, that's for sure.

SFF cases are not made with temps in mind, if you have your case open with a table top fan blowing into it your temps will drop. Changing the case will not lessen the heat into your room but move it away from the PC faster, your system is a furnace, get used to it.
Even watercooled as mine is, my room gets warm from the exhaust. Buy an AC, it will cool your room and in turn lower the temps of your system.

I ran Real Temp, and went to settings and when I checked the Tjunction to set manually, they showed 90 already. RT also reports 44*C idle @ 1596.03mhz 266x6. It does mention the GPU at 62*? :/

Just never had a rig put off this much heat. Considering selling it and rebuilding. Gah.
