The Q6600 seems to be the most popular quad and I was wondering what the average OC without touching voltages is, more or less. Thanks.

I am at 3.0ghz with a slight undervolt. at 3.3ghz i was getting into a dangerously high overvolt.

3Ghz at stock or less voltage sounds pretty nice especially with recent price drops. I wonder if I should wait for the e5200 to come out and see if prices drop even more.

stock voltage, the only gaurentee you have is stock settings.

No one can tell you the potential in a chip when it comes to overclocking unless they themself got a chance to play with that chip.

Even then overclocking is very parts sensitive, so jane can easily gobble joe if jane went the higher end and smart overclocking route.

aigomorla is right, while it is expected to get 3ghz on stock voltage, it is not guaranteed, only stock speed is guaranteed. Back in the day the Q6600 G0 were expected to go even higher, but their quality diminished since (I heard the theory that intels "alpha" plants ramped up to new 45nm process, so the lower end plants are now making the 65nm CPUs, makes sense).

Also the quality of components you use makes a huge difference.

My Q6600 with a vid of 1.325v can hit 2.6 on stock volts. By 2.9Ghz, had to bump up the voltage to 1.3875v. This is where she is sitting now. Resorected, testing and doing some folding for a couple days then I bump her up a bit more.........
