Q6600 and 680i board for less than what just the CPU costs!

You do realize that the Q6600 drops to $266 on July 22, right?

Still, if you need something now, this is a hot deal. Basically you are getting the CPU for that price a month early.

Exactly. Consider this:

On Newegg, the XFX 680i motherboard costs $240 (excluding rebates for the sake of this example).

The upcoming price on the CPU is $266 as KenAF2 pointed out.

$240 + $266 = $506.

Note that the $40 rebate at Newegg expires on 6/30 which is why I don't include it in this example. 🙂

is P35 better than 680?
I think so. The Asus P5K Deluxe is an excellent board.

For the posters above, I would remind you that we have no idea what 680i board prices will be next month. I would not at all be surprised to see some vendors cut the price of their mainboards to push sales with the new, lower-cost Intel Core2 Duo lineup.

P35 is Intel's mainstream replacement for P965; P45(?) was shown at this month's Computex--it's supposed to go against the 680's.

Nothing, really. They're just dropping the Core2 prices on July 22 (and July 29 for Xeons?). The big deal is that it finally brings the Q6600 down to the sweet spot price point of ~$250 - where the currently-popular E6600 is sitting.

IIRC, the next big chipset is going to be the X38 (should be released soon). X38 is officially DDR3 1066 supporting. The other big change for it is that it'll be using PCI-Express 2.0 slots.

Of course, if you were looking for an all in one, including graphics, the G35 should come out next quarter, with HDMI, HDCP, and DX10.

i'll try toughing it out and waiting 1 more month. 🙂

Same boat here. I'm getting pretty antsy as more and more parts come in for my new build and I have to wait another month before I can get the cpu. 🙂

Yea me too but i decided last night i am gonna just buy everything now and get an e4400 for the next couple months. With that price cut I am sure the q6600 is gonna be OOS all over the place.

Is there any info on other price drops... say for the e6320 and e6420s ?

add in the price of the 250 dollar motherboard and it's cheaper than after the price drop. I think it's an excellent buy for someone who wants to build a new quad core PC. If you just want to upgrade to a quadcore and already have a motherboard you're better off waiting. Hell if you wanted you could buy this and sell the mobo as new and still get it for around the price drop price.

Huh?

there is no p45.

p35 is the 965 replacement as you said and the new x38 is the replacement for the 975x.

the X38 is going to be the enthusiast chipset from intel and from what i've read it's gonna be bigger and better than any 680i chipset since it will support SLi (supposedly), have pci-e 2.0, 2 x16x pci-e, etc.
