I think that Q3 has one of the best game engines out there, and i'm sure lots of people agree. Also you cant beat the graphics of Q3

Q3A has great netcode and a excellent engine but otherwise I don't like it at all. It gets boring very quick and I only bought it for the mods coming out.

UT has some good, DIFFERENT weapons and some cool game modes. I think the graphics look just as good as Q3A.

Quake 3 by far. Quake 3 has a superb 3D engine and it runs very fast. UT runs very poorly and is very CPU bound, so don't consider even getting it you don't have a very fast CPU.

Single player is a lot of fun and you get very good practice playing against the bots. The levels are well designed and the bots are both smart and funny because they all have unique personalities.

As for multiplayer: well they don't call this game arena for nothing. 56K modems do suck though so try and have some LAN parties with 100 BaseT ethernet connections. They are really good, honest! :D

Definitely UT.

Unreal was good candy, but I played Quake 2 till my fingers bled (ok, till carpal tunnel). Quake 3 is pure crap to me. I'm sorry. I had it, uninstalled it. Installed it again to try it again, and it still sucked. I got a new PC and tried again, no better.

THen I go back to UT and man it's still top of the line. If you can't tell from the demos, I don't know what you're playing. The demos alone show UT kicking butt :)

UT. I also played a lot of Q2, but didn`t see anything great about Q3 other than looks.

Until last week, the only games I've ever played were Q1, Q2 and Q3A. Then I tried the UT demo. OOOOOH! So much more action and less predictable. Nice graphics. More variety. Q3A now looks like a kiddie game. I'm waiting until the price of the full UT comes down here in Toronto. Right now it's $60.

UT. I think some people who say Q3 either haven't played UT or are so blinded by their loyalty to Quake that they won't admit UT is the better game. :)

Depends.

I throw lan parties at my house for the guys at work. Some of them are serious online players, some only play once in a great while. The group has tried several different games. We play UT because it's the easiest to set up for everyone and it is a more "fair" game than Q3. We have done 8 sessions so far, about 6-10 hours each, mainly CTF.

In my opinion, UT is more suited for novice or "just for fun" players. It seems to take less skill/experience to participate well. The newbies pick up on UT faster than Q3a. It's more fun when the guys come over to play cause it's easy to jump in a CTF game. Q3a is not very "user friendly". I'm hoping they fix that with Team Arena.

Aside from that I play Q3 exclusively. Currently, I play RA3. I play alot. Q3 own3z jOO :)

Loyalty is a crock of you know what. That said:

I played tons of q2, about the only game i ever played, even though i tried Unreal and UT, they didn't grab me, nice games though, UT being much better than Q3A.

Q3A disappointed me immensely as far a game play. Bought Q3A, hated it, uninstalled it quickly. But like others have noted, as far as the engine, graphics, and netcode, this is a fast platform that can't be competed against, in those aspects.

In retrospect though i never liked the slowness of q2 dm either, i became addicted to the speed and intensity of lithium and instagib, completely different games/mods with thier own merits.

So, now, Q3A is installed on my PC, due to the ra3 mod, and it is now my game of choice, after being stricly a one game q2 player, this mod has totally blowm me away.

See it this way: ra3 has all the benefits of the Q3 engine, graphics, and netcode, with the playabiltiy of good q2 mods and UT. Can't be beat.
