Q3 Demo: is there a FPS cap on the timedemo?

As long as you type "timedemo 1", I think it runs the demo as fast as possible. I think that "timedemo 0" runs it at normal speed. Just make sure that vsync is off and you should see the frames fly. 😀

I have one of the eVGA 6800LE's with the fast GT bios running Ultra speeds, and i'm only getting about 137fps, yet my 3Dmark 01/03 scores represent what my hardware should do. Before I reformatted my drive I was getting 235fps with 4xAA and 8xAF using the Q3 timedemo 1 command. And i'm sure I had the DEMO fps un-capped somehow, but can't remember how.

the framecap has nothing todo with benchmarking

(leave the framecap alone)

here are the autoexec.cfg tweaks for Extreme Quality....

seta cg_drawFPS "1"
seta cg_shadows "2"
seta com_hunkmegs "192"
seta com_maxfps "85"
seta r_lodBias "-2"
seta r_lodCurveError "10000"
seta r_stencilbits "8"
seta r_subdivisions "1"

I'm really wondering why I am only getting 137fps, when before I was getting 235fps. My 9700 with HQ settings 1024x768 @ 4xAA 8xAF (same settings as the 6800) was getting 188fps. Yet my Futuremark scores seem fine with the 6800. I tried it with-out AA and AF and got about 10fps more so there is something going on.

This is with the very first Q3 demo, and I removed it and re-installed it just in case.

Pull down your console, then type:

/com_maxfps 500

The number can be any cap you want. It's a universal setting. Certain numbers (like 120 and 85) makes it easier to do certain jumps (/map q3dm13 mega health spot).

Remember how people are always telling you install the latest chipset drivers for your motherboard? 🙂
Well, I guess when I made the jump from DX9.0 to DX9b and DX9c, my chipset drivers were no longer good.

4xAA 8xAF 1024x768= 292fps
And my 3Dmark01 score went up 3,000 points!

🙂 🙂 🙂 = me

But the Win98 drivers are still lacking, the 61.34's are ok but I can't shut down my comp by Windows. I have to use the PSU power switch. The 61.76 set works on powering down, but I can't even get into the NV control panel with-out crashes, and other errors to set things up 🙁
