q12300.sys missing or corrupt?

I just pieced together a "newer" system and wiped the hard disk clean of the Win XP Pro install on it. Now I'm having an extremely difficult time getting any OS on the drive at all. Build has been plagued with Boot Disk Failure errors and my Linux OS's were giving me problems as well. Now I've finally gotten Win7 RC to work but upon automatic restart after install I get a boot manager message saying \windows\system32\drivers\q12300.sys is missing or corrupt. I'm not sure what to do. I burned the RC to a dvd with Active ISO burner at only 2x I don't think anything could have been missed in the burning process. Has anybody else received this error?

You pretty much answered the question yourself. I'd suspect the HDD is failing/failed.
