I personally thought they should have rebuilt as is. With some plane dissolving lasers on the roof of course. And at night the lights in the windows could do different things. A middle finger pointed at Mecca. Fuck yeah, America in the other one. :D

9/11 was an...

That would be awesome, they should also have a plane that is sticking out of it, it would be a tourist attraction. Maybe it could even be a restaurant or something. There would be 11 items on the menu.

Yeah, it's called a traditional building structure.

You live in NYC and you believe that trash?

What else can I believe?

Would you have me believe our Conservative POTUS decided to commit an act of war against his own country to build hatred and wealth against a people who embarrassed his father in past confrontations?

No one is that retarded.

just put some cops armed with laser pointers on the roof

I laughed.

As for the original question: I don't think it would help. You probably aren't going to get enough advance warning to prevent the plane from hitting the building unless you put a larger area of protected airspace around NYC. Also, there's the problem of what happens after you blow up a large airplane over a densely populated area.

So, kicking Saddam out of Kuwait and back into Baghdad was embarrassing to Bush Sr.? Seriously?

How we forget history, even the recent crap.

And whyever not? This is AMERICA! The 2nd Amendment: right to bear arms! Why put up another tower so the extremists can just bring it down? Are people really that stupid or naive? F*** that man, give me a missile defense!!!

Yeah...that makes sense. Shoot down attacking airliners...and have them crash into other buildings and homes.

I think I'd rather let them take down the towers again than to have them take out a neighborhood.

So you hold a degree in metallurgy now?

I think they are using steel that won't magically melt this time.

You don't need to completely melt the steel beams to cause the collapse of the building. All you need is soften it so the load (>10 floors IIRC) on top can no longer be supported by the beams. :hmm: Of course "the truth" will never come out.

Excuse my French, but fuck advanced warning. What's the cost of a SAM battery? What's the cost of an iconic tower collapsing to dust in a major city, and those Islamist bastards getting more propaganda?

Even if we would never use the thing, the intimidatiom factor may be deterrent enough.

The Chrysler building was actually converted into a spaceship by Einstein and a secret team in 1934, being the true Manhattan Project. They moved the lasers in 2002 up to the top floors, so we should be good as far as anti-aircraft goes.

Eh, can you all just build something down there and call it a day? What kind of message are you trying to send by leaving that piece of land empty for 10 years? "We are STILL defeated?"

The terrorists won. All they set out to do was to disrupt the way America works, thinks and acts. Mission accomplished Taliban.

we're gonna TRY not to implode building 7 magically as well.

I heard that after they got done with 7 WTC, the ninja demolitions team went back in time, crucified Jesus, jumped forward in time, killed 6 million Jews, then assassinated Hitler for the Holocaust.

Mission Accomplished.

Wow. I didn't know they were even building anything there. I thought it was an empty place still. Interesting!

It's close to being the tallest building in NYC now.

As others have said, you can't shoot down a airliner over a city. Furthermore having the capability introduces a possibility of an accidental firing. Planes are so 2000, the next wave will be pigeons.
