I wonder on a new system...should I do Video Driver then DirectX .. or the other way around ?

and what about in the future? ..say if I updated Video Driver.. do I need to reinstall DirectX ?

or the other way around ? .. if I updated DirectX .. should I reinstall the video driver ?

Thanks

Need to provide just a tad more info on your system for an accurate reply.

Athlon: Via 4in1's, video drivers and then DirectX

Pentium: video then DirectX

It makes no difference whether you install DirectX or your video card drivers first.

Likewise you don't need to uninstall anything unless you want to change your video drivers to support a newer version of DirectX. If not then the old ones usually work just fine.

thx for your replies....

okok ... let me clarify ..

I am running XP200+ on KR7A-133 (VIA) .. with Win98

when I set the system up .. yeah.. VIA 4 in 1 is the first one I installed....then I did the VIA AGP Driver.. then the Video Driver then DirectX

my Q is gear toward future driver update.... ... so .. looks like the correct order will be Video Driver and then DirectX ?

It does not matter if you do the drivers then Direct X, once Direct X is in the system and its the updated version which is 8.1 then its there. Even if you bought a game or anything and it asked if you want to install Direct X it will detect which verison you have and either tell you to install it or tell you the verison you have is up to date.
