That's your opinion. I've run a Gigabyte board without any issues at all, as has aigomorla (the cases and cooling mod). Meanwhile, the only Asrock board I've personally handled has refused to boot, and Asrock refused to RMA.
Yet I still recommend both, because I know that my experience is in no way representative of the average person's experience (both companies sell thousands, if not millions, of motherboards).
Furthermore, if he doesn't want to overclock (or doesn't care either way), he definitely should not be spending extra on a Z77 board.
I have built hundreds of PCs with both, Gigabytes hasnt been all that for several years.....Asrock is cheaper and more feature rich, and the OP did mention he may OC....but you are right, its only my opinion.
