There's an employee of Seagate, engaging in "guerilla marketing" spam in GH, by attempting drum up negative rumors against a competitor. He also refuses to properly disclose his professional relationship to his posts, which I have asked several times for him to do. He has, in the past, posted entire Seagate corporate press releases verbatim on the forums, which I had always considered to be non-commercial. (Ie. if he has company news, he should submit it here as news, or otherwise convince his employer to pay for advertising here.)

His most recent thread was here , and I noticed something that I hadn't before, he is using two different accounts, seemingly interchangably, both BaumerX and baumerz .

I managed to quote incontrovertable proof of this fact, it's at the end of the thread, as he managed to sign one of his posts with his alternate nick. :p

This post really said it best:

baumerz, you are clearly blindly biased, and for reasons that are obvious to only some of us because you refuse to disclose your employer in your signature which is pretty customary on reputable message boards like this one. Far be it from me to request people getting banned, but it should definitely be a rule of this board that anyone recommending products for the company they work for or badmouthing a competitor without clearly stating your employer which you frequently do both of should be tossed from these boards as that is an obvious violation of decent ethics on these boards and can certainly also be considered spamming.

So if this is allowed here on AT, then please ignore, otherwise, do what you have to do, mods, please. Thanks.

Damn, there's a Seagate sales rep lurking here? I should point his sorry ass towards my "I'm being driven to homicide by your effing hard drive idle seek noise" thread.

I think the user "Teuton" is the same guy. Signed up the same day as the thread in question, and comes in and champions how he thinks the info is good. In another thread he mentions some new Seagates coming out...

I dunno....I have a Raptor....love it...but for a general everyday HD I don't think you can beat Samsung. Have built a ton of systems with Samsung drives....never had a problem.

I can say for sure that *> Maxtor

Good catch VL. I have typed a note, but I did a search before sending. So far, I only see two trolling incidents. So, not sure this is a Seagate thing.

But, the ethics still suck.

First, i think you should read my replies to the above "cuts". Second, I don't identify myself as a Seagate representative because I am not one. Third I am not "drumming up" rumors but posting links I think are interesting about identified hardware problems which many people do.

Lastly.....I did start using another ID because I needed to make a post and had forgotten my pswd. The reset was sent to an e-mail address I did not have current access to. The reason I used the exact same name with just a different letter at the end is so that you would KNOW I was one and the same.

BTW...who are you representing?

You have helped some folks here. But in the future, I would recommend that you do not post issues about the competition to your company. It is a rather sleazy sales tactic that has moved vendors to the bottom of the 'do business with' list. Even if you are not is sales, don't do it. What if they bought you? See...

If you have another account, PM the mod to remove it. Posting with two accounts in the same thread from the same person has almost always resulted in instaban from what I have seen.

We still joke about the quip that a certain company used to tell us about cosmic rays causing data bursts on the ISA bus where MCA would not do that while trying to sell us their product.

You are employed by the company, therefore you represent them by your actions.

Third I am not "drumming up" rumors but posting links I think are interesting about identified hardware problems which many people do.

It's funny how all those links promote Seagate in a positive light and the other manufacturers as "having problems" or being of a lesser quality.

You are to company whorage as Africa is to "fairly large".

I will e-mail the moderator to remove both of my accounts. If I cannot speak freely I do not want to be here. This is my hobby, nothing else and there are other boards.

The only "other manufacturer" would be Maxtor. I have actually made positive statements about other HDs. You're probably a Maxtor rep who's upset. The proof is in the pudding.....Maxtor is having problems......no slant needed.

---

Thanks for sharing. A quick survey of your posts as baumerz and as BaumerX show a strong pro-Seagate slant, and the address for your account as BaumerX is @seagate.com.

We have many members who work for many well known hardware and software companies. We value their input because they are in positions to know what they are talking about, but we resent it when they try to take advantage of our forums to promote their own commercial interests.

Your accounts are now locked, but we will not delete them.

Nope, not a Maxtor rep. I work for a manufacturer.

The company whorage comment still applies.
