Well started backing up my data to my back up drives inside the pc guess i'm one of the un-lucky ones. Most of the time its hitting 1mb per sec.

This speed is totally normal when copying lots of small files, especially to an external hard drive.

I'd be curious if using something like RichCopy would help speed that process up with many smaller files like that.

I don't have any big backups to perform anytime soon so I won't be testing it for a while to see if it would.

I have a Q9550 system also and I hit around 80MB per second on data Transfer.

With the same data? Small files take forever.

I was just backing up yesterday to a USB 3 external. Was getting 115MB/s with huge files and about 15MB/s with small files. 1 MB/s does seem slow though, but if the files are tiny 1kb files and you have thousands of them I wouldn't discount it.

Plus, according to the Intel engineers, you shouldn't see the effects until 2-3 years from now, if you're ever going to at all.

Series 6 chipset owners are seeing a lot of placebo effects right now.

I have three 1TB SpinPoint F3s in RAID-0 (3TB). After building the array I needed to move data onto it. The data was split between a 1TB SpinPoint F1 and a 1.5TB Barracuda. I copied all of the data from both drives onto the array at the same time.

We get it. Your trying to justify the fact that you spent 1000 dollars on a processor. But we have no way of knowing how large the file that your transferring at that moment is and I doubt given an equal storage setup on a 1155 platform the numbers would be any different.

No, the guy above me was only getting 15 MB/sec with his transfers. I was just showing that it's well below what it should be.

There is some confusion the free agent drive was plugged into my SATA port on my motherboard so getting upto 15mb that is not usb I removed it from its shell. Love how they say two years down the road that means something started to happen when they were doing 24 hour stress tests.

Any way I ended up returning it and getting the I7 950.

I heard port 0 and 1 is fine just the rest is no good. maybe you can use one of those ports instead.

The OP might have gotten a defective board so if he is happy with his X58 purchase then i guess good luck to him :).

Although i wouldn't have done it.

Last I read, Intel had only been able to replicate the problem by using way more voltage and heat than normal, to speed the process up.

Personally I think exchanging a SB setup for a i7 950 over this SATA issue is crazy, but as long as you're happy that's all that matters.

Well, it depends what you do. For gaming, at certain clocks there is little difference. For encoding, the 2600k is a beast. People are in a panic about this SB issue, but really, it's just a bad SATA port. I saw some paranoia about potential data loss, but I don't see how that could happen. If they had replacement boards available now, I'd barely have an issue with this problem.

However, I could swear I read that Ivy Bridge will not be supported by the current P67 chipset, so you might have to replace your board anyway.

Curious to see what his speed is if he transfers the same dataset with the new board. Just to see if it was a defective board or not. I really don't think it was..but who knows.

Forum,
Before you scream off with the head let me apologize for some miss understanding.
First I was trying to seek out who had both I7 950 and 2500k to see what they thought of the difference.
Second I had usb problems with the motherboard thought it was the 3.0 maybe didn't work right.
So I was going to keep trying to work with it then they pulled all boards.

I will post the data transfer later on when I get done. I did the same test in my Q9550/I7 860/and phenom 955 all had well over 65mb in transfer.

Well I got the I7 950 up and running and ran it again, This is my average spikes at 85mb
I'm happy with it, its powerfull enough for what i'm doing.

I use the crap out of my computer and don't to get errors or data loss. Does anybody know if the replacement boards will be new or refurbished???

if we are getting replacement boards in three or four weeks, and we are not turning in our 'bad' boards until we get the new ones, how will the motherboard makers accept the return, make the changes to the board, package them up and distribute them when the corrected boards become available?

This assumes that you swap out boards as soon as they become available which I plan on doing...after a month or so, I suppose it could be anyone's guess at that point...

that's copying the exact same data you tried with SB? sounds like there was a bigger problem that was not being said if you were averaging 10MB/s before.

Yes same files/folder I don't know if it was driver problem or what. I installed all the drivers then my usb's started to go crazy going on and off like every 5 minutes. Then updated the drivers from the website still same thing. Then disabled the USB 3.0 driver and that seemed to work for about 3 days then started going crazy again.

Like i said before was trying to work with it to see what was going on but then they pulled all the boards and i was stuck with I guess dieing board or major driver problem. Could not even game because my usb devices would cut in and out.

i was actually referring to intel's statement about the small problem, not something you did. sorry :)
