Just had a question I have a Intel 2500K And use all sata ports.

I wanted to know Vs I7 950 Maybe as a replacement ? I have seen some of the reviews on here and 2500K beats them but not by much. I spoke with the place that i got the sandy bridge from they said just return the mobo/cpu/ram. I dont want to want 2 months for a motherboard. How much of a step down do you guys think it would be for that

Intel Core i7-950 3.06GHz Boxed Processor
Asus Sabertooth X58 LGA 1366 X58 ATX Intel Motherboard
Ballistix 6GB DDR3-1600 (PC3-12800) Triple Channel Desktop

Thanks

Nothing wrong with these chips, you should go for it.

My guess is that you would not be able to tell the difference.

Why not grab a Sata card in the meantime? I would still pick SB over X58 for the overclocking and new features.

In all honestly you can abuse all the sata ports for a year and never notice any problems. You would be fine until April, just send your board back to the shop when they recieve stock to make the change over.

Yeah, just hang onto your current parts until there's enough stock to replace your board.

No reason taking a step down (no matter how slight) to older parts, when your Sandy Bridge build will be fine until you can get a replacement.

I use the crap out of my computer and don't to get errors or data loss. Does anybody know if the replacement boards will be new or refurbished???

Well look at it this way. If you go back to 1366, you're going with old (but still powerful) hardware. If you're a heavy user (which I'm betting you are), why not just stick with Sandy Bridge and superior CPUs?

The least you'll have to do is swap out your board with a free, non-defective replacement. If your board does fail, it's not even expected to within 3 years, and even then you'd have to own one of the 10%-15% of boards that will fail.

Your system will be fine until your manufacturer offers you a free replacement. You have nothing to worry about.

I just got off the phone with MSI they said they will replace it with same spec or better and it will be a brand new motherboard. Also they said the shipping will be free.

Only thing i have a problem with is how long shipping and if they do not give me the same motherboard i will have to reinstall my operating system again any ways.

I'm on the fence about the hole thing.

Unless you're seeing problems and having issues you should be fine waiting for the replacement motherboards to ship.

Geez some of you guys are panicking a bit too much. It's 5-15% over THREE years. The chance of your sata ports dying within the next 2 months is very low. Hell, odds on you can use it for its natural lifespan and never have a problem. Just relax and wait until you can RMA.

Do you have SATA III drives?

And what happens if you transfer single large files? Like, files over 6-8 gigs.

Yes But i have all 6 ports being used.
I'm just going to go with the I7 950 I do not want to want 2 weeks for a rma and have the system down in that time.

I know its crazy but i almost never rma a product just because of down time and having to deal with the companies. I have had many bad times with rma's.

Your speeds seem pretty normal for what your doing. Many small files transfer much slower then a single large one.
