Q: About Nested Quoting Vacations

I'm sure that one or two levels is OK, but was it just the excessiveness that did it here?

Is the nested Repost quote banned as well, the one where a person puts the R and the next person quotes the R and puts an E, etc.? Because, I mean people have been doing that for about as long as we've been on FuseTalk and no one's ever said anything before...

Just waning to get some clarification as to how far is too far. Thanks!

What happened there was a chain was started. Excessive quoting just for quoting sake will earn you some time off. Some of the users may be re-evaluated and given longer vacations/permabanned as they have offended time and time again.
As others have said, just use a little common sense.

One or twice is initially humorous.

After that one deserves a slap on the write.

Being a donky deserves a vacation.

Common sense - one does not have to act like a immature teenager.

I would like to see an end to all stacked quotes, systematically if necessary

Looks to me like they could make it where when quoting, only the text of the person being quoted and the new post would carry forward.

Well said my friend🙂

in the olden days, before "Forums" , there was something called usenet

it had some rules about quoting, quoting ettiquette

and i quote

When replying, should I quote the previous message?

Most certainly. You should always provide some context to your replies so that people who may not have been following the thread closely, or who have other things on their minds will easily be able to determine what you're talking about.

However, when quoting, be very careful to edit the quoted sections down to the bare minimum of text needed to maintain the context for your reply. There is very little on a mailing list that is more annoying than paging through a few pages of quoted text only to read a few lines at the end. Also be careful that you clearly indicate what text you're quoting (as opposed to what you're writing), and if possible, cite the author of the original text.

If your mail program wants to attach the whole message you're replying to on the end of your replies, please do not let it do this if you can possibly avoid it. It is a good thing to include excerpts from previous messages with your replies to maintain a logical flow of discussion, but it is almost always a bad thing to include the entire text of a message being replied to, be it at the start or end of your reply.
if the kiddies could follow something reasonable, then we wouldn't have a problem

They needed to get slapped down. That was just another way of neffing, IMO.

Never said they didn't, I agree 100%. I was just wanting to make sure that the nesting quote of repost wasn't banned as well, as I partake in that once in a while. 🙂

All I would say to you, is just use some common sense. That alone will keep most people out of hot water. Unfortunately, too many here lack common sense. Jeez. I sure hope they aren't as big of idiots in real life. 😉

did they all get banned? what about the first or second person who started the 😕

We wore out a ban stick banning all of them. Luckily, we were able to get in on a deal RossMAN had posted and we recently stocked up. We are ready for the next round.

I would suspect that it is up the the indiviguals track record here as evaluated by the Mod(s) on who gets vacationed and the time periods. (IMO) repeat offenders should get a longer sentence; they should have known better.

To me the repost chain is especially dumb, and takes all credability from the comment.
Your complaining that the OP is wasting resources by duplicating a thread that already exists and the response if six useless posts to waste more resourses?😕

i agree that that the repost nested quote it stupid. if you want to tell someone their OP is a repost, just say repost and/or link the original thread

doing nested quote of each letter of repost isn't necessary

I still don't understand this
Does the mod mean that

We aren't allowed to have mod quotes in our sig?
Or that we cant do 1 quote posts like "becase you txxch yourself at night"

Can someoen go into farther detail becuase I thought that the mod was a bit vague (at least for me)

Edit: Never mind - I read the "text" and saw that everyone did a 😕

I find the whole quoting thing has gotten so far out of hand as to make my number 1 cadidate for this year's CWOS award. Whatever happened to the concept that ideas should stand on their own whenever possible?

Cool, thanks for the answer Mods. Like I said, just wanted to make sure that all nested quoting wasn't banned now.

I'd hate to be banned for missing an unwritten rule. 🙂 (Couldn't resist)

I agree with the week vactation for those that participated in the immature quoting; many of them seemed to also participate in other forms of neffing and hopefully this will make them think twice before posting pointless things again.

Good Job Mods! 🙂

What if the second person had quoted because he agreed, but the third, fourth, fifth and so on quote him aswell, yet he gets in trouble. How is that fair at all?

The first person called for a quote chain, it is obvious that it was neffing. Why would you quote someone who was trying to start a nef chain if one was trying to contribute to the thread.
