Thats not true. For the last damn time, animals have sex out of instinct, not reason or pleasure.

Wrong. Some animals do have sex for pleasure. Do a search on Dolphins.

On the discovery channel i saw in some zoo after the monkeys would have fights they all had sex to make up...sounds familiar...

I was having a discussion with my gf about homosexuality. She insists that being gay is nothing but a choice. So I brought up the fact that there are gay animals. Animals don't choose to have sex like humans do. Its just blow your load and get out.

She then asked me to show her an example of an animal that was gay. She asked if the animal ONLY had same sex partners, or if it was something like a Kane Toad (where she says "just likes to have sex" and will have sex with either of the genders)

I of course don't know the answer to this, so I was wondering if you guys could shed some light on it.

(In the end I also brought up, that if it was only a choice, how do you explain the people who are gay, who don't want to be gay and hate themselves because they are gay).
While I can definitely think of examples of animals displaying 'homosexual' behavior, I cannot think of a time where it's been the animal's first choice.. seems like it's more like "any port in a storm" mentality where they couldn't get a female so they settled for a pal instead. Not that there's anything wrong with it...

All I can tell you is that part is not true. The only other animal who has sex for pleasure besides humans are dolphins.

Yeah, you might try sex with anything, that would make you tri-sexual.

I think that would be called multi-sexual ;)

Anyway, I don't know jack about biology nor psycology; so I have nothing to say about this topic. All I can say is that this thread has been a debate with at least some intelligence in it (which ATOT has recently lacked), pls keep it that way so I can learn more about this issue.

BaliBabyDoc maybe this article will enlighten you to the research in the idea of hormone imblance as a case of homosexuality. And make you think next time you flame someone.

Mating types in yeast, vomeronasal organ in rodents, homosexuality in humans: does a guiding thread exist?

Let me see . . . Neuroendocrinology Letter . . . dude this ain't the American Journal of Psychiatry, NEJM, JAMA, Nature, or Science. A journal for the rapid publication of material is usually a euphemism for . . . "couldn't get it published in a reputable journal".

Regardless from your source . . .
Monti-Bloch and Grosser [29] found the adult human VNO responds to picogram amounts of human skin pheromones with depolarization. These findings suggest, that the human VNO may function as a pheromone detector as it does in other mammals. However, so far there is no evidence that the human VNO is connected to a functional accessory olfactory system.

Do you know what this means . . . the absence of a connection between the human VNO and a functional accessory olfactory system means conclusions based on a connection between the human VNO and a functional accessory olfactory system cannot be verified. There are too many journals publishing borderline science . . . the kind that gets cited on nerdy BBS (I guess that's redundant).

It is certainly possible that some homosexuals have a phenotype which can be identified through a hormonal milieu (or imbalance as you called it). Is it likely? No . . . b/c homosexuality (just like heterosexuality) is a complex behavior with multiple mediators and modulators of activity. The integrated nature of human hormonal regulation makes single axis disorders relatively rare EXCEPT cases where the disorder is caused by a single genetic variant.

Hopefully you have access to legitimate journals as well as the fringe . . . so try reading them. I know you really want to buy the phermone package for $59.95 guaranteed to make you irresistable . . . but it has the same value as the pills you are buying for 'enhancement'.
