Q. about formating/ partitions on hard drives

hi, i just have a few questions about partitions. i just got a brand new sata harddrive and i wish to of course format it. now to do that can i simply use partition magic straghit away or do i have to do some thing else first, coz i think i may not have done my ide drive correct when i did it. also do i create as a logical or primary partition. it says at the bottom that it may not boot, so im unsure, i dont plan on using it for windows.
here are a few pictures so that hopefully some people can help me 🙂 and i get every thing right this time (if i didn't b4).

pic of my ide drive and preview of the others

so yeah i was just wondering if in fact this is correct and normal.

any help is welcome thank you

If you never plan on using it to boot from, then just make extended (non primary) partitions with logical drives. PartitionMagic is OK to use, but you don't need it, as you can do exactly the same from within W2K or XP.

Actually, your best best is to format it with the ReiserFS or EXT3 filesystem. Of course, this means dumping Windows and switching to Linux. Windows is not smart enough to know what those filesystems eve are. 😉
