Pyschic abilities

I just thought of something.

If you are psychic and can see the future...

Is the reason that you can see into the future because:

1) you make the future happen with your mental powers (i.e. you have the ability to (unconsciously) create a new universe where your future is the reality).
2) you can open up some time-space wormhole and really see into the future
3) Or are you just an insane carnie who goes against the laws of statistics of predicting the future 100% of the time.

1, 2, or 3?

In my city, Cincinnati, there was a recent unexplained disappearance (and later found dead) of an out-of-town visitor who wandered around a corner after getting out of a cab.

Police asked a psycic for clues and the psycic said to "talk to the homeless people near the water".

His body was found near a hobo camp on the Ohio river.

So, does that mean anything?

I beleive that everybody has some ability to observe things beyond our own perception, but 1) most people choose not too beleive in that kind of stuff, hence not paying any attention to it, and 2) Some people pretend to be "super-psychics" and basically rip people off. If you think about it, I am sure you can recall some instances when perhaps you were thinking of a song in your head, and then all of the sudden somebody else started singing it, or you turn on the radio and it's playing... stuff like that. But yes, I'd say 100% of the television psychics are fake, and 99.9% of all the others who cliam to be able to tell the future are fake as well.

"always in motion is the future" -- there is no single future, but many possible futures, some more likely than others.

ill do a quick proof i just thought of that shows psychic ability is false.

first, lets assume that in order to predict the future, you must take that information from the future and travel the information back in time to today.

as everyone ( most everyone ) knows, to go back in time you have to travel faster than light, traveling faster than light is not possible, so bringing information from the future is not possible. hence, psychic ability is false.

on a side note, being able to predict the future involves there being a future which is also false. there is only a now, there is no past and there is no future, how can you get information from something that doesn't exist?

Think about all the times you think of a song and no one starts singing it. You remember the times it happens because it sticks out, otherwise it's no big deal. The thing is: does it happen more than chance would allow? Coincidences happen all the time. Think about 5 billion people living their lives. Weird things are bound to happen just by chance given the large amount of people and the relatively large amount of time for the weird things to happen.

"Nobel laureate Luis Alvarez, after reading a brief passage in a newspaper, began a series of associations in his head which lead him to think of a long-forgotten acquaintance from his college years. Turning the pages of the paper, he was amazed to see an obituary of that very same individual."

Pretty weird eh? He went on to compute an approximate probability of such a coincidence. He came up with a probability of 0.003 per year. So, every year up to 15000000 occurences world wide strictly by chance. Of course the number would actually be smaller because not everyone has access to newspapers, knows how to read, or cares to. All that is saying is that remarkable things can occur and they can all be chalked up to chance.

Phycadellic drugs give people psychic abilities. Not for real of course though. But seriously, if you try some drugs you might see:

aliens
god
dead people
other universes
the next dimension
hear sounds
experience different time periods.

Drugs are crazy! If you want to see some of those crazy things you might think about dropping some acid or something.

<< traveling faster than light is not possible >>

people used to say that about traveling faster than sound too......

I think the psychics are planted on earth by some advanced civilization to prepare the feeble human mind to be taken over and used as pack mules and beasts of burden for some 3" tall underwater alien species

to go back in time you have to travel faster than light, traveling faster than light is not possible,

True, you have to go faster than light to go back in time. But by saying that "traveling faster than light is not possible" is a fallacy. It is possible... it just takes lots of energy. And since it would take so much energy and the forces would tear the spaceship apart, we would probably need some exotic force to keep it together. So it is possible, but not by human standards.

And one more thing... it is possible to travel into the future. So you can tell the future... since if you travel really fast in space and then come back, you will be effectively in the future. But you can't go back... not yet.

hehe.. i'm just babbling...
quick.. someone disprove me or else I'll think i'm a real psychic.

All this talk about predicting the future.

I think it is possible to know information about things that have already happened, as in my case above about knowing information about a murder that you were nowhere near.

Most psychics work that way, seeing things that already happened or somehow 'feeling' associations with a disappeared person. They don't have to travel to the future, just like you don't have to travel to the past to remember something that happened earlier. They just remember something they cannot know, they 'feel' the information they need. That can be from the past, the present or the future. (Although not many can actually predict the future) My mom assisted a psychic a while who helped the police a lot. He was often able to tell them stuff about the place a disappeared person was in or near, no matter if that person was alive and well or dead. He solved several murder cases that way too.

Some people are more sensitive and more open to such things, some people are sensitive but don't believe it and therefor also won't train themselves in it, and some people aren't sensitive but want to believe they are, and give it all a bad name.

...and many possible nows (presents), and many possible pasts? Can these be percieved, experienced?

Let me ask a similar question:

If monkeys were to fly out of my ass, would they fly out of my ass because:

1. The smell in there is too much for them to bear.
2. They want to bring good tidings of joy to my neighbors.
3. They reproduced so much there is no room for all of them to stay

i agree with spooooon. we only remember the times when weird coincidences occur, not the times when they DON'T occur. i think 99% of "psychic" abilities are crap, but i still think there is room for the supernatural in our world.
