I know some people that are getting heavily scammed by this junk. Does anyone here have some comments?

How's it work? You don't make a profit until you recruit other people to sell stuff for you?

If that's the case, it works because smart people convince stupid people to work for them.

Yes, but Multi-Level Marketing schemes -- the bastard cousins of Pyramid schemes -- aren't illegal. The basic premise is that with an MLM there's actual work being done with rewards, whereas a Pyramid scheme involves getting money for no work whatsoever.

Same way as a Pyramid scheme, basically. Usually the lower parts of the "pyramid" make X% per sale, and the rest goes to the person above them who recruited them, who in turn pays a certain percent to the person above them. And so on and so forth. What winds up happening is that people above a certain level no longer have to do anything to make money, whereas the lower X levels are doing all the work and making crap for money, until such time as they recruit more people and add a few levels to the pyramid.

I just went to one of these.. I got fooled to go to that place..
I got this flyer from the job bulliten board, that says "International company, needs part time help, full training, need bi-lingual speakers to make anywhere from $500-$2000 a month part time and $2000-$4000 full time"
I called the number on the card, then the "employer" told me to goto this hotel at 9:45AM Saturday(today), for an interview...
Then it turned out to be this herbalife conference.
I was stupid enough to sit through the whole thing till 3PM
It sounds pretty good though, if you basically did what that lying b!tch did, you could recruit a good deal of people. She said she makes $10k a month from what she does.
My bro is into the program, he ended up losing money because he sucks at recruiting people, and he just tried to sell their worthless product.

I don't know about the pyramid scheme, but Herbalife itself works. I have pics of a friend to prove it (just not for you dirtbags here ;)). It required her to take like 6 pills every 12 hours though. But I guess if you're battling weight problems all your life... that's worth it. I don't know how they're still existing after the ephedra ban though. Oh she ended up working for them in a store as a full-time job.
