M4 review

As you can see it's essentially the same as the M4, only it uses toshiba toggle nand, has more cache, and should use different firmware.

looking at the 128GB versions of both on newegg, the plextor is $25 cheaper.
I just can't find anyone that's owned a plextor SSD online ...
I kinda wonder how good the firmware is, ie: garbage collection behavior
an anandtech review would be nice 🙂

What are your thoughts ?

The Plextor M2 SSDs certainly had very effective GC. The M3 is using 24nm toggle NAND though, where as the M2 used 32nm toggle NAND.

The die shrink may require less aggressive GC, but one would need to get their hands on the drive to check this out.

Yeah, they cut the price another $15 since I posted this thread

apparently the toshiba toggle nand should be similar to the samsung toggle nand ?

Good value: Marvell 9174 controller, Toshiba 32nm toggle NAND and 5 year warranty.
In Canada, this drive is priced at $184.99 at the Egg http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product...tor-_-20249014. This actually makes it pretty competitive, as this price is without any mail-in rebates.

If you're wary of the SandForce based drives, this Plextor is a great drive for a bit less than the Crucial M4.

Can't say how the Toshiba toggle stacks up vs the Samsung toggle, but any review I've read about any SSD has always praised the drives for having toggle NAND vs not having it.
