Sadly, I didn't know that beer froze. I had an 11 pack of New Castle and a 10 pack of Amstel Light in my trunk from yesterday, just took them out and some were foaming all over the side of the bottle. It's a very sad day.

Consider this a community service announcement 🙁

UPDATE:

The Amstel Light somehow managed to survive, and still tastes okay going back from frozen to cold.

You've never stuck beer in the freezer before to get it cold quick...then forgot about it or left it too long?

Beer is mostly water. Water freezes.

OMG this is going to be the best ATOT meet ever...

I got two 12 packs for byob mexican place last night 🙂

no more in the car since this incident!

Beer is only like 5% alcohol.

Anything below like 25º and you should be worried.

its a bad decision to leave beer at anytime below 0C...i have a buddy who is a connoisseur apparently...the beer will lose its (good) taste after a certian time below 0C and even in the 7-1C degree range it will detract from the flavor

I still have a 12-pack of keystone light on the front porch. Bought it for someone who was coming over at Christmas (and it's the brand he regularly drinks.) I did my best to make all my guests as comfortable as possible, and for him, he was happy drinking a much better brand of beer (which I had for myself.)

So, if anyone wants some keystone light, just grab that 12-pack. I'm not sure if the cans have burst or not. Doesn't appear foamy around the case. Allow it to thaw & enjoy.

This is Anandtech, we're nerds. We put our beer in a bowl of salt water and ice to get it cold faster. 😛

So is salt water.
A few impurities can significantly alter properties.

Steel: Just a little bit of carbon changes its properties considerably.
