Pwned by my company

In negotiating our latest contract, my union decided it would be a good idea to consider holiday pay, should the holiday fall on a weekend, to be applied to that Friday and not the actual holiday. The logic behind this is most people at my company dont work during the weekend, so in the end more employees will get time and a half for that holiday.

I work Saturdays, not Fridays, so I don't get the time and a half. I have to come in Christmas day and New Years day and get paid like it is any other regular day. It is just plain disrespectful to the employees that work on weekends (who really wants to work on the weekends anyway?) to take their holiday pay away and give it to others when it is the weekend people who actually have to work the holiday. And when complaining to management, they make no concessions. The union is likely to be no help. :|:|:|

That is why I hate companys. Too bad your Union isn't sharper or else they would've protected your holiday time.

Well it works best for 'most' of the people but not you 🙁

Why didn't they just put in the contract, Everyone gets holiday pay on that Friday if the holiday falls on a weekend and weekend workers get the extra pay because they are working on that day.

Ah, the complaints of a normal life. I dont even get to be within 8 time zones for the holidays, and I certainly make less then you, and definitely no holiday pay. Plus theres the whole maybe getting shot at thing. 😀

In this case, don't blame the management. They have to stick to the contract. Your union screwed that up. But if I understand correctly, wouldn't this only be a factor when a holiday is on a weekend? If Christmas was on Friday, you would get time and a half for Friday (when you don't work) plus your regular pay for Saturday, right?

If Christmas was on Friday, I wouldn't get anything for that Friday (because I dont work Friday) and regular pay for Saturday.
