Hmm, I don't know what to think of that last part where the guy punches the 'gangsta' out. However, if I am not mistaken I believe it would have been very possible to break the 'gangsta's arm.

Its not karate. It looks like some type of kung fu could be a shaolin set from the looks of the opening 'Hero' pose and the open palm leading when he was advancing. I could be wrong because they taught northern shaolin at the 'school' went to but I did chen tai chi and a little bit of hsing-yi.



As for throwing a punch- power generation is different in kung fu. Some styles have the power come from the feet up, the momentum of you body mass, or the turning of your body (can't really explain this one without showing you) so you do not have to have your fist close to your body to throw a good punch. The best example that comes to mind is the 1 inch punch.
