It would be nice to have on inside my Tuniq tower.

The motherboard PWM control is accurate.

True PWM motor not just a yate loon with a 4 wire plug! :p

Because the Tuniq loads it's fan on both suck & blow, they recommend a fan with 9 plus blades be use. You can find this info in the FAQs at thier site.
With fewer than 9 blades there might be the chance of the fan recirculating the air at the blade tips.

:Q Has this been smoke tested? :p

I'd love to tap into those chilled water lines. ;)

My inside case temps skyrocketed since this 8800GTX and QX6700 were installed. The air coming out of the S700M12 is actually very warm now and the 60mm fan runs all the time. :(

The only ones I've seen in retail are the JMCs mentioned above.

A few people on the SPRC forums have used them and were pleased with the results but they are very expensive, see here.

I'm just testiong a cct that takes a PWM input and uses it to drife a normal 3pin fan.

It's adjutable, and I ca nget stable (quiet) fans speeds down to 500 rpm with it.

If there is any interest I'm going to market them; otherwise I'll just use them ion my own cases.

There are lots of schematics out on the internet on how to build PWM fan controller. Some design are very simple since they use off the shelf PIC microcontroller as the main component. You should be able drive a 3 pin fan with one of these. Of course the proverbial 3rd pin might not be useful anymore because of the PWM waveform (depends on circuitry I guess). You can also find cheap (probably voltage controlled) fan controller. Check out Compusa... I got one for 6 bucks there... Works fine on my 3 case fans

I've had no problem with the thrird (sesor) pin at anything over 500rpm

Can I watch? :D

Haha it's a pipe dream. (pun not intended)

Air cooling it is. Exotic cooling systems would probably be ok as long as it's completely self contained and electrically sound. All equipment has to be approved by the senior engineer.

I know how to build a PWM controller. There's already a good one on the motherboard. A good fan is all that's needed. $20 is not expensive at all for a good fan. You should see what some of the parts for other things here cost. :Q

Hi,

Yes - there is indeed a good PWM controller on the Motherboard, but finding a 120mm PWM fan to attache to it is the issue.

Until the fan manufacturers wake up the solution has to be a PWM to 3pin converter plus a 3pin 120mm fan.

i saw this on their site as well, but was curious as to how true this is? is there a vague possibility of the recirculating air, or is it very likely to occur with a fan with less than 9 blades?

i tried to google for the differences between fans with less vs. more blades, but couldn't find much info at all :/

sorry if this is hijacking :S

I've tried other fans and even if an aerodynamic anomaly is present, it does not effect CPU temps. The original fan IS quieter when maintaining the same temps over all vs. sound. (not speed)

I don't have 50 fans to try unfortunately.

The air slides past the blade tips & frame to get lost in a loop. Note that the blades of most all 9~11 bladed fans curve in such a way as to force the air toward the hub and not permit it to spill towards the frame. These types of fans are very directional and the straight bladed jobs are not. The latter is better if something is close to the fans discharge side, like a stack of HDDs.
No Dawn, this was not smoke tested because this time I trusted what I read. :p
