PVR Software? (Preferably free)

Well I've been looking around a good bit and I have not been able to find any decent free PVR software, outside of Freevo or MythTV for Linux that is which I do not run much on this box. So far I've tried Virtual VCR and MsDVR 2000 both of which have their flaws. Right now I'm giving Showshifter a try and even though I'm running a PIII 700 on it instead of the required PIII 800 it seems to be doing ok. Thing is I would prefer not to pay $50 for PVR software if at all possible. What I'm looking for is a basic piece of software that will allow me to easily schedule recordings and also compress them into mpeg format if at all possible. Compression isn't needed but it'd be nice. And yes I did a search for this and I came up with a total of 2 threads with no software recommendations.

what's wrong with MythTV? I love it....runs flawlessly

Nothing's wrong with MythTV it's just that I currently don't have Linux loaded on this system and even when I do have it loaded I do not boot into it often. So it would be kindof silly for me to load Linux just to use that program.
