PVR and video recording on the/your computer

I need something that would work in a dorm, so the ATI HDTV wonder is out of the question.

Any suggestions are humbly accepted.

This and the Hauppauge Win TV150 PVR-MCE-PCI Tuner Card for MCE, Model "1024" -OEM

are what I am deciding between now. Is there any good freeware or retail software that anyone considers to be the best?

I prefer sageTV for TV though. It really does an amazing job and you can customize the hell out of it. My version uses a commercial detect engine they have on their forums that detects and skips commercials...it rocks!

that is the custom are of the forums, there are many"versions" of the sage frontend called STV's several ones run the commercial detect program.
I run cayars ultimate STV version 17

What is the difference between the Hauppauge PVR-150 and PVR-150 MCE? Is is just bounded software, or is there any hardware differences? Can you use the MCE version in a non-Windows Media Center computer (ie: XP Home)?

The MCE seems to be the only version of the card that supports Windows XP MCE.
