it doesnt matter, as long as teh units cancel out with the other units properly. could be metric tons of gerbil brains per square furlong

it's in the same units that inverse units of R has... ie., if R is being messured in 1/atm, then the P is atm, if it's 1/pascals, then P is in pascals. R changes with the units... there is not real set unit. IIRC, 1*10^5 pascals = 1 bar = 1.13 (not sure on this one) ATM

so if volume =.56L, temperature = 20C, and pressure = 740mm Hg, I would have to convert the temp to kelvins and te pressure to atm to get a correct answer for n? :confused:

not necessarily in ATMs it depends on the units use on the other variable as well as the units for the constant R. For instance if you have the correct constant R you can have p been interms of torrs or even mm h2O

there we go. sine it is jsut an inverse/direct ratio equation all that matters is the relationships.


chem teachers LOVE to give you other units were they cancel out and yet you still use K, L,atm's etc
