Started Insanity yesterday, my mat was moving around enough that it was a lot more difficult than it needed to be. A lot of people are saying I should get a non slip rubber mat and put it underneath it. I'm poking around looking at other mats, I have the CAP or whatever brand Sports Authority sells, it's a pretty basic mat. Would anyone here know of a solution in the $70 range that would be better than getting a rubber slip mat to put under it? I'm not even sure how well that will work. I don't care if it's a puzzle type or not. Just need enough mat to do Insanity on, I dunno 36sq feet or so?

I'm looking at the Nike Training Ground, not nearly as thick and I can't find any in-depth reviews on them. Price is a bit above what I want to spend, but if they're that good I would spring. I'm not sure what a difference going from a 3/4 to a 1/4 inch mat would be impact wise. It looks like it might be made more for equipment flooring.

Do you have a Ross near you? Sets of 4 puzzle mats go for $10 at the ones near me. I managed to find 2 taped together and took them to the checkout and got both for $10 ;).

What exactly are you doing that you are sliding around on in Insanity? The fit test doesn't have anything you should slide on. The majority of the exercises don't require any kind of mat and the ones that do are stationary enough you'll be fine without sliding.

I try to the entire workout on a mat, the globe jumps & Power Jumps both made the mat slide, doing those on bare concrete would be hell on my knees. From watching clips of the rest of the videos, it looks like Insanity will have a lot of similar stuff, so the mat I have won't cut it. The one I got seems to slide from just about anything,

Yeah, if you can't jump around without the mat, you will need one that doesn't slide. I did all mine on my floor (hardwood flooring) without shoes and didn't use a mat of any of the stuff. There is a lot of jumping though.

Jesus that didn't kill your feet & knees? I don't know how hardwood compares to concrete hardness wise, maybe I should try it without a mat for a few days just to see how my body reacts. If my legs can't handle it I'd know real quick.

If you don't have a Ross near you, there's got to be a discount clothing store that sells old stock at a significant discount. If they sell any workout equipment there, they should have mats.

Jigsaw are nice. I also recommend you getting a jump rope.

Well, not really. I have bad knees, so some of the stuff irritated them (globe jumps), but I just took small breaks when it got painful and warmed up before I did it.

I did four rounds barefoot. I picked up some Vibrams Five Fingers in April and found it even better. I recently just moved and now have a place with thin carpet over the concrete. It's still just fine. Perhaps take a look at T25 (Shaun T's newest program) if you have issues.. Its still tough but not nearly as much jumping. They even have Tonya doing modifier moves.
