So, I don't have the parts yet, but I will be getting them soon. I ordered everything except for the parts I am taking out of my current Dell Dimension 4300. I am going to use the optical drives, floppy drive, and my hard drive.

I know I will probably not be able to use my Dell Windows XP Home Edition disk, but I am going to give it a shot anyway. Could anything get messed up if I try it?

For the optical drives and floppy drives, will I need to install drivers? If so, how should I go about getting them?

Thanks in advance!

no drivers will be necessary...good luck with assembly and with the Windows version.

and please don't call them "compy" anymore...it offends them deeply.

Some people have said it does. Besides, the Dell & disk are so old, it might work. It is worth a try to save what, $100? Also, some people have said you need to have XP Pro to take advantage of Dual Core Processors. AND, is there a 64bit version of Windows XP I should buy?>

You don't need XP pro for dual core, XP home will work fine. HOWEVER the dell disc probably won't work. Try using linux for a while untill you get the new copy.

Don't get XP 64 it's not for you.

You can download something called a "live" cd, once downloaded you write the file to a cd, you then boot up from the cd itself rather than the hard drive.

The Dell disk should work...it will not activate and will bug you about that for a few days. You will have to reinstall every 30 days to keep it going though. Which is HIGHLY ANNOYING!!

Yah, but it will hold me until I get more cash.

I was looking at your specs Rommels, and my computer is extremely similar, except it will be running an AMD Athlon X2 4400+. Does yours run games like BF2 on max well?

Also, what power supply are you using?

Fortron AX500-A PSU.

I run BF2 at 1280x1024 on the ultra high settings and run it fine. The FPS aren't sky high but I don't notice and choppyness or anything.
